Our Process
Our process is simple and straightforward. First, our clients choose their desired product from our portfolio or custom work. Next, they select their preferred cover printing and personalization options. We then create a proof of the cover logo placement, which is emailed to the client for approval. Once approved, we begin building the product, using only the finest archival materials and traditional bookbinding techniques. Finally, we ship the finished product to the client, who can then fill it with their own printed pages.
Our Story
Hinged Strung Stitched was founded in 2008 by Molly Lewis, who was later joined by Michelle Johnson as an equal owner in 2010. Our studio is located in the historic Olympic Mill Building in Portland, Oregon, where we operate a tranquil and cozy workspace. We started out producing one-of-a-kind archival photo albums for wedding photographers, but soon expanded our product line to include portfolio books and clamshell presentation boxes.
About Our Founders
Molly Lewis, one of our founders, has a lifelong passion for bookbinding and creating beautiful works of art. She has spent years perfecting her craft, learning from the best bookbinders in the country and working as a bookbinder and papermaker at a local Portland paper mill and letterpress print shop. Michelle Johnson, our other founder, has a background in English and graphic design, and brings a unique perspective to our studio.
