Saving the past for the future, one printed page at a time.
The Museum of Printing, situated at 15 Thornton Ave., Haverhill, MA 01832, is a sanctuary for preserving the rich history of the graphic arts, printing equipment, and the captivating craft of printing. Established with the mission of preserving the past for future generations, the museum houses the most extensive collection of typographic technology and ephemera globally. Our museum stands as one of the only three institutions in the United States wholly dedicated to printing and graphic arts.

Visitors to the Museum of Printing are in for a unique experience, akin to stumbling upon Ali Baba's cave filled with a print shop and pressroom. Amongst our many collections and exhibits, you'll find Letterpress on Fabric Workshops, the Haverhill Exchange Club's "Freedom Shrine, " and the fascinating History of Desktop Publishing. Our Letterpress Intro+ Workshops and the Garage Sale & Book Sale serve as opportunities for hands-on learning and exploration of vintage printing equipment.
Workshops and Events
Each year, the Museum of Printing hosts a variety of workshops and events designed to delve deeper into the world of printing and graphic arts. For 2024, we have an exciting lineup of $125 workshops taking place on Saturdays from 10 am to 4 pm, including the popular Introduction to Letterpress and a Letterpress on Fabric Workshop.
History of the Ludlow Typograph
Our latest offering, the History of the Ludlow Typograph by Frank Romano, meticulously documents a remarkable device that continues to make an impact in letterpress printing worldwide. Rich with stories and illustrations, this groundbreaking book chronicles the people, the company, the machine, and the type library that have shaped the world of typography.
Ongoing Projects and Initiatives
The Museum of Printing actively collaborates with various organizations and clubs to continually expand our knowledge and exposure of the printing industry. With the Haverhill Exchange Club's support, we display the "Freedom Shrine, " showcasing replicas of thirty-eight significant American historical documents, including the first inaugural address of George Washington.
In partnership with the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers, the Museum of Printing presents the History of Desktop Publishing, compiled by Frank Romano and Miranda Mitrano. This distinguished work has received Honorable Mention by the 18th International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB) Breslauer Prize for Bibliography.
