Somersault Letterpress

Somersault is an award-winning letterpress print and design studio that specializes in creating custom event invitations and brand identities for discerning clients who appreciate a more tangible way to tell their story. Our studio began in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2011 and later moved to the historic town of Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania in 2015. The work is the culmination of the talents of Mitch Hanson and Amy Pienta, who bring together a love of machinery, design, and the creation of beautiful printed pieces.

We are not an industrial print shop. We are not fast or competitive. Our hands craft every project, and our minds are always dreaming up the next idea or working through the next issue on press. Our hearts are in every printed piece. We are two people who love doing what we do, from start to finish, and we look forward to working with you.

Our studio uses old vintage presses from the 1930's and 1950's, along with ink and foil, to create ultra-thick, sumptuous paper with a luxurious and tactile feel. This blend of old and new, combined with our selection of thick, beautiful paper stocks, results in a piece worth holding onto. We pride ourselves on our unique approach to design and printing, which sets us apart from the digital printing industry.

Our Story

The studio was founded by Mitch and Amy, who met as a Designer meets Print Sales Rep. Their shared passion for letterpress printing and design led them to leave the fast-paced, glossy industry behind and start their own studio. They sought a slower pace, where they could focus on the process-driven, artistic aspects of printing. This decision allowed them to rediscover the joy of creating something by hand and the satisfaction of seeing a project come to life.

Meet the Team

Amy is the creative brain behind Somersault, responsible for designing and conceptualizing projects. She is also the one who keeps the hand-fed Chandler + Price Craftsman spinning. Mitch is the heart and hum of the studio, handling day-to-day print projects, foiling, and larger runs. Together, they form a dynamic duo that brings a unique perspective to the world of letterpress printing and design.

Our Mates

Hamish, Giblet, and Herbert are three monkeys who have been a part of the business since its inception. They are responsible for quality control and ensuring that everything runs smoothly. Apart from greeting the first few guests, they spend most of their time sleeping and snoring peacefully.
